KUALA LUMPUR (July 1): The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has confirmed newly-elected Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has been summoned to give his statement at the anti-graft agency's headquarters in Putrajaya at 10am tomorrow (Monday).

In a short statement today, MACC deputy commissioner (operations) Datuk Seri Azam Baki said Zahid has been asked to assist in its investigation into two separate cases, but did not elaborate.

He added that the agency had got in touch with the former deputy prime minister on June 27, summoning him to attend a meeting tomorrow to give his statement at the MACC headquarters under the MACC Act 2009.

Earlier today, Zahid was reported as saying that he had been summoned by the MACC to clarify certain issues related to a welfare foundation owned by his family members.

"The foundation was established for activities such as building mosques, tahfiz schools, orphanages and other welfare activities including coordinating donations. The funds in my family foundation were contributed by me and several friends who are also interested in doing good deeds," he said.

The Star reported this morning, citing sources, that the agency will be questioning Zahid over allegations that a foundation he chaired had misused funds amounting to RM800,000 to pay credit card debts.
