Have you ever been in a situation where you told yourself “I should have serviced my car” right after a breakdown in the middle of traffic? It’s pretty easy to overlook the demands of maintaining a vehicle in the busyness of daily life.

This is where car maintenance apps can help. You can now track the status of your car, your next service appointment and even the estimated cost of repairs with these apps.

1 Serv

With Serv, users can track their vehicle health and create reminders for future service appointments. The functions of the app include fixing appointments with the nearest workshop and emergency services. Users can also renew their insurance and road tax on the app.

Serv also has a feature for battery replacement — battery faults are the most common cause of breakdowns — that allows users to request breakdown assistance for battery replacement and trade in old car batteries. The app is available on Android and iOS.

2 MyCar: Car Management

This app is for users who would specifically like to track their vehicle’s fuel efficiency, fill-ups and mileage. Users can also attach receipts and other documents to car events.

The premium version allows users to set up service reminders, create reports with charts and statistics in PDF format and track personal or business trips. The app’s cloud sync feature enables it to access data from all devices with the app. Available on iOS, Android and Windows.

Cost: Free, with the option for in-app purchases from US$0.99 to US$109.99 per item.

3 Drivvo

Unlike other car management apps, Drivvo is limited not only to cars and motorcycles but also functions as a finance management app for buses and trucks. It helps users keep tabs on fuel consumption, refuelling, maintenance and other expenses such as fines. This information provides them with an idea of their monthly costs, average consumption, cost per km, average km/litre, oil changes and even financing instalments.

With Drivvo, users can manage multiple vehicles, get fuel or gas consumption calculations and retrieve fuel efficiency reports from gas and petrol fuelling stations. Available on Android and iOS.

Cost: Free with options for in-app purchases starting from RM1 to RM12 per item.

4 POMEN

This digital roadside assistance app connects users to the nearest available workshop in the case of an emergency or regular service booking. It assists users with car battery and tyre replacements, breakdowns and maintenance services. Its GET POMEN feature informs users of the workshop and mechanics handling their requests. Users can also get real-time updates and track the arrival of their service provider. The app allows users to pay only for what they have agreed with no hidden or surprise fees. Available on Android, iOS and Huawei App Gallery.

Cost: Free, without in-app purchase.

5 Simply Auto: Car Maintenance

Simply Auto assists users to record and track data for several vehicles and drivers. Functioning as a logbook for cars, the app tracks mileage, relying on Bluetooth and GPS navigation systems. Trips can be categorised as personal, business or other categories. The reminder feature notifies users of services or expenses due. The app has instant backup on cloud and manual data backup on Google Drive to ensure all service records are stored. Available on Android and iOS.

Cost: Free, with the option for in-app purchases starting from RM4.49 to RM88.99 per item.
