KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 18): The 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) will finally be tabled on Sept 27 to set the development agenda through 2025 as countries around the globe race to regain composure, if not a better competitive position, post Covid-19.

Malaysia, which has been stuck as an upper middle-income country since 1992, needs to make bold reforms to take the economy out of the pandemic-hit slump and strengthen its competitive advantages.

Government agencies, the private sector, investors as well as the public at large must be on the same page on the country’s policy direction.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Economy) Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed has said that the 12MP will provide an overarching trajectory of the government’s development agenda. What does he have to say to The Edge ahead of the tabling of the 12MP?

Can the 12MP be that road map upon which necessary strategic reforms are made to create more better-paying jobs for young Malaysians to safeguard their future?

What do economists and thinkers have to say about Malaysia’s economic development and the 12MP?

Which ministries got the most development expenditure allocation over the course of the 11MP (2016-2020)?
