KUALA LUMPUR (July 24): Lawyer Chooi Mun Sou has carved a fruitful career spanning six decades, even as he dedicated himself to community and public service. Now, he recounts his richly colourful life — along with that of Malaysia’s identity, and its economic and political journey — in his new memoir, Malaysia My Home. In our cover story this week, the veteran lawyer talks about his life of service and passion for his work.

Also in Options this week are reviews of Amor Towles’ book The Lincoln Highway, Tiffany & Co’s London exhibition, the Ferrari 296 GTB, Gordon Ramsay’s new restaurant in Sunway Hotel and most extravagantly, the spa scene in Lazio, Italy. It may be summer but the curative properties of Roman baths are legendary, and our story is packed with rich detail, should you want to recreate the experience.

Our Work + Space column puts deputy chair of the British Malaysian Chamber of Commerce Nik Tasha Nik Kamaruddin under the spotlight, while Newswired discusses the new app we should all take note of: NGL — a third-party Facebook and Instagram feature which followers can tap on, to answer anonymous questions and comments. Spoiler alert: It begs for closer inspection.

What has also been keeping the Options team incredibly busy is watchmaking pullout Calibre, which is also out in this week’s issue of The Edge Malaysia weekly. From the happenings at trade fair Watches and Wonders earlier this year, to recent novelties released by some of the industry’s top maisons and emerging trends in haute horlogerie, this issue has it all and more.
