KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 17): Mitsui Fudosan Co Ltd, a Tokyo-based real estate company, will commence the operations of LaLaport BBCC on Thursday (Jan 20).

It is Mitsui Fudosan's first LaLaport mall in Southeast Asia, which is under its Malaysian subsidiary MFBBCC Retail Mall Sdn Bhd — a company among UDA Holdings Bhd, Eco World Development Group Bhd and the Employee Provident Fund.

As part of the mixed-use development of Bukit Bintang City Centre in Kuala Lumpur, LaLaport BBCC is also the company's second LaLaport shopping mall overseas after Mitsui Shopping Park LaLaport Shanghai Jinqiao.

LaLaport BBCC has a total floor area of 133,000 sq m, a store area of 82,600 sq m and about 2,400 parking bays. There will be about 400 stores to be opened in stages, starting from this month.

Among its tenants include Japanese brands that are making their first appearance in Malaysia, including: F&B outlets Shin'Labo and MATCHA EIGHT; a nursery school that incorporates Japanese-style childcare and intellectual education called Star Child; furniture shop Nitori; as well as pet shop with cat cafe Coo&RIKU. Other tenants include Body Glove, Focus Point, Life n Fitness, Guardian, The Face Shop, JONETZ by Don Don Donki, Jaya Grocer and MR DIY.

The shopping mall also has three food areas, including the 1,400-seating capacity Garden Dining Food Court, along with Gourmet Street and Depachika Marche.

With its Japanese heritage, the shopping mall is designed based on "modern simplicity" and "Japanese flavour" design concepts. There are also event spaces, such as the Central Rooftop Garden of about 1,700 sq m.

MFBBCC Retail Mall managing director Kohei Kawashima told City & Country that the mall is now 70% tenanted.

"Upon the opening on Jan 20, there will be 80 stores open at the same time. The remaining stores will subsequently be opened over this year," he said.
