KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 17): Kumpulan Powernet Bhd announced today that the memorandum of understanding it inked with Japan's Applied Science Co Ltd (AJ) to commercialise the technology of superfast charging and discharging of battery related products has been mutually terminated.

No reason, however, was disclosed for the termination of the MoU, which was entered into in September last year.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, the textile and apparel maker said that the termination took effect on Jan 10, and that the development will not have any financial impact on the group.

When announcing the initial agreement last year, Kumpulan Powernet said the MoU with AJ was to explore the establishment of a partnership, co-operation or collaboration and to enter into the next phase of product development cycle by commercialising the technology developed by AJ, namely the superfast charging and discharging of battery related products, among others, for mass market sale and distribution.

AJ is principally involved in the research, design and development of superfast charge and discharge of battery-related products.

Kumpulan Powernet shares slipped 1 sen or 2.02% to close at 48.5 sen today, giving it a market capitalisation of RM36.93 million.
