KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 8): A strike by taxi drivers at the Kuching International Airport to protest ride-hailing services by Uber and Grab at the airport has disrupted all taxi services to and from the airport, according to Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB).

In a statement today, MAHB said it was informed about the strike by Gabungan Teksi Kuching.

"While the strike is not held at the airport, there is a disruption to all taxi services to and from the airport," said MAHB.

Kuching International Airport senior manager Mohd Nadzim Hashim has urged passengers to make alternative land transport arrangements to and from the airport.

"The association has informed us that taxi service will resume at 6pm today.

"We have been in communication with the local authorities, the airport taxi operator and the association on this matter as it presents a great inconvenience to our passengers," he said.

However, Nadzim assured that airport operations and airline schedules are not affected by the incident.

"Passengers at the airport can request for assistance from staff on the ground if they require information on alternative transportation," he added.

Kuching International Airport serves the southwestern region of Sarawak. The airport is a secondary hub for Malaysia Airlines and AirAsia, which operate a number of domestic and international flights.
