KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 18): The FBM KLCI sustained its meagre gains at mid-morning today, in line with the uptrend at most regional markets.

At 10.05am, the FBM KLCI was up 3.97 points to 1,657.68.

The gainers included Nestle (M) Bhd, Dutch Lady Milk Industries Bhd, Aeon Credit Service (M) Bhd, Allianz Malaysia Bhd, Petronas Gas Bhd, Syarikat Takaful Malaysia Bhd, Mega First Corp Bhd, Gadang Holdings Bhd and PPB Group Bhd.

The actives included Nexgram Holdings Bhd, Asia Media Group Bhd, AT Systemization Bhd, Melewar Industrial Group Bhd, Perisai Petroleum Teknologi Bhd and XOX Bhd.

The decliners included British American Tobacco (M) Bhd, Heineken Malaysia Bhd, Tasek Corporation Bhd, Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Bhd, Hap Seng Consolidated Bhd and Can-One Bhd.

Asian stocks edged higher and the dollar consolidated recent gains on Tuesday though risk appetite was low as weak US markets prompted investors to stay on the sidelines, according to Reuters.

In Asia, MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan gained 0.2% in early trade. Australia's benchmark index was up 0.3%, it said.

Hong Leong IB Research said that on the back of retreating oil prices and uncertainty ahead of the final US presidential debate (Oct 19) and the toned-down expectations ahead of the tabling of Budget 2017 (Oct 21), the FBM KLCI is likely to lock in range bound consolidation mode within 1,640–1,670 levels this week.
