KUALA LUMPUR (July 9): The FBM KLCI remained in negative territory at mid-morning today in line with the slump at most regional markets.

At 10am, the FBM KLCI was down 5.68 points to 1,690.15.

The top losers included British American Tobacco (M) Bhd, Aeon Credit Services (M) Bhd, Amway (M) Holdings Bhd, Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd, Panasonic Malaysia Manufacturing Bhd, Lafarge Malaysia Bhd, Petronas Dagangan Bhd, Petronas Gas Bhd, Hartalege Holdings Bhd, Sasbadi Holdings Bnd and KESM Industries Bhd.

The actively traded stocks included AirAsia Bhd, Frontken Corporation Bhd, KBM Group Bhd. Eden Inc Bhd, Minetec Resources Bhd, Sumatec Resources Bhd and IFCA MSC Bhd.

The top gainers included SCT Holdings Bhd, Tahps Group Bhd, KPJ Healthcare Bhd, Super Enterprise Holdings Bhd, Carlsberg Brewery (M) Holdings Bhd, Evergreen Fibreboard Bhd, IOI Corpoartion Bhd and Genting Bhd.

Asian equities extended losses on Thursday as concerns over China's market turmoil spread,while the safe-haven yen shot to a seven-week high as global risk appetite ebbed, according to Reuters.

MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan shed 0.2 percent, hovering near a 17-month low struck the previous day, it said.

Hong Leong IB Research said that on the back of current bear markets in China and an overnight Dow’s slump, the FBM KLCI’s near term techncial outlook had deteriorated, following a 3-day 38.4 points slide.

“Sentiment will remain edgy amid internal and external risks.

“Near term supports are 1660-1688 while stiff resistance levels are 1718-1746,” it said.
