KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 24): Malaysian shares may track Asian stock futures gains today following the overnight advance in US equities. The substantial one-day gain in crude oil prices and its impact on Malaysian shares will also be closely watch.

Yesterday, the FBM KLCI rose 14.46 points or 0.81% to close at 1,810.68. Overnight, the US' Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1.32%, S&P 500 added 1.23% while Nasdaq Composite climbed 1.6%.

In Malaysia, oil and gas-related shares may be closely watched following substantial gains in world crude oil prices.

Brent crude oil jumped about 3% near US$87 (RM285) a barrel on news reports indicating that major oil producer  Saudi Arabia had reduced output last month. The output cut came amid a fall in crude oil prices.

Bloomberg reported that Asian equity index futures climbed after better-than-estimated company earnings and signs of global economic strength fueled gains in US and European stocks.

Futures on Japan’s Nikkei 225 Stock Average rose in Chicago and Osaka as contracts on stock gauges from Australia to South Korea increased 0.3%. The NZX 50 index was up 0.7% by 11:40 am in Wellington.
