KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 17): The FBM KLCI lost 0.99% at mid-morning today, weighed by select blue chips.

At 10.0am, the FBM KLCI lost 15.73 points to 1,581.09.

The top losers included United Plantations Bhd, Lafarge Malaysia Bhd, Time Dotcom Bhd, Hong Leong Financial Group Bhd, Telekom Malaysia Bhd, Genting Plantations Bhd, Carlsberg Brewery (M) Holdings Bhd, Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd, Oriental Food Industries Bhd, Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd and Public Bank Bhd.

The actively traded stocks included Frontken Corporation Bhd, KNM Group Bhd, Flonic Hi-Tech Bhd, Sumatec Resources Bhd, IFCA MSC Bhd, Nexgram Holdings Bhd, AirAsia Bhd and Bumi Armada Bhd.

The top gainers included Guinness Anchor Bhd, Tasek Corporation Bhd, MSM Holdings Bhd, GD Express Carrier Bhd, Genting Malaysia Bhd, Adventa Bhd, MISC Bhd and Pos Malaysia Bhd.

Asian stocks were little changed on Monday as investors' nerves continued to settle after China's surprise yuan devaluation last week, while the dollar held modest gains against the euro after upbeat US economic data, according to Reuters.

MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan were virtually unchanged in early trade, it said.

Hong Leong IB Research said the FBM KLCI may continue to be trapped in downward consolidation this week as the long-awaited oversold relief rally failed again last Friday as investors sentiment was fragile amid lingering domestic issues and external risks.

“Key supports are 1,552–1,590 whilst resistance zones are near 1,610–1,647,” it said.
