KUALA LUMPUR: Undeterred by arrests following its last rally, the #KitaLawan movement will hold another street protest on Saturday in Kuala Lumpur to call for the resignation of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and the release of opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

#KitaLawan secretariat member Fariz Musa said the group was waiting to meet the police to discuss its plans for the rally, adding that the demonstration would go on regardless of police feedback.

“Whatever the situation, March 28 will still go on. Whether police give their permission or not, we will continue,” he said in a press conference yesterday at Dataran Merdeka.

Under current law, gatherings do not require a police permit but organisers need to give the police notice.

The Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR)-led movement is expecting a bigger turnout compared with the last rally held on March 7.

Police allowed the rally then to proceed but the next day began hauling up the organisers, that included PKR leaders as well as activists, for investigations.

To date, 11 people have been arrested for the March 7 rally.

As a prelude to the mass gathering, the #PecatIGP campaign was launched last night at 9pm at the #KitaLawan sit-in venue.

A mega ceramah titled “People against GST March 27” will be held at 9pm tomorrow, and several prominent leaders and politicians as well as youth and student activists are expected to give speeches.

Among them are Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan, PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu, PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli, DAP Seputeh Member of Parliament Teresa Kok and PKR vice-president Tian Chua.

The March 28 #KitaLawan rally will have three meeting points. They are at Masjid Jamek, led by Rafizi and Fariz; the Dataran Merdeka fountain, led by Tian Chua, Nurul Nuha Anwar and Mandeep Singh and at PAS headquarters in Jalan Raja Laut, led by Mohamad Sabu, PAS Youth chief Suhaizan Kaiat and Universiti Malaya Muslim Students group president Khairol Najib. The protesters will march to Sogo at 4pm. — The Malaysian Insider
