(Oct 12): DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang has urged the government to print a million copies of the Conference of Rulers' statement on 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) last week for mass distribution to the public.

In a statement today, Lim said the October 6 statement should be distributed widely to all Malaysians as the ministers themselves are coming up with contradictory interpretations of the message in the statement.

In the statement, the rulers called for a quick resolution to the 1MDB crisis before it further affects the economy.

Former government leaders such as Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal, and Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz saw the statement as representing the seriousness of the 1MDB issue, but Cabinet members merely welcome the statement and at the same time sounded "dismissive", Lim said.

"Why are ministers coming out with varied and even conflicting interpretations of what the October 6 Malay rulers' statement meant?" Lim asked.

"There is an urgent need for an October 6 Movement to ensure that the 30 million Malaysians fully understand the true content and import of the Malay rulers' statement of that date," he said.

He said that if the government is not willing to distribute the statement widely, civil society should step in and play its role instead.

Meanwhile, Lim said Pakatan Harapan leaders in Johor have agreed to disseminate the statement to all Johoreans. – The Malaysian Insider
