KUALA LUMPUR (March 11): Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah today opened the first meeting of the second session of the 14th Parliament.

This is the first time His Majesty opened a Parliament session since he was sworn in as Yang di-Pertuan Agong in January this year.

His Majesty arrived at Parliament Square at 10:09am and was welcomed by Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof and Dewan Negara President Datuk Seri S. A. Vigneswaran.

Also present to greet the King were Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail was also present at the event.

Sultan Abdullah was then led to the royal stage to receive the royal salute mounted by the Royal Malay Regiment Central Band, accompanied by a 21-gun salute and the national anthem, 'Negaraku'.

His Majesty is scheduled to deliver his Royal Address in Dewan Rakyat shortly after this ceremony.
