KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 10): Sovereign wealth fund Khazanah Nasional Bhd said it is necessary to foster closer ties with Chinese investors to expand Malaysia's market base and share new technologies.

"Malaysia has much to benefit from these partnerships. Despite what's been said in news reports and social media, it is clear that the government welcomes Chinese investments," Khazanah managing director Datuk Shahril Ridza Ridzuan said at the South China Morning Post's China Conference here today.

"Khazanah views the relationship with China as important," he added.

"When we look at China, we see the ability to access a market that is multiple times (bigger) in size (than Malaysia). For Khazanah, we are more focused on the new economy, digital media, business and technologies," said Shahril (pictured).

He also encouraged Malaysian firms to go to China to find the right partners and technologies for investment.
