(Nov 27): Murdered deputy public prosecutor Anthony Kevin Morais will be conferred the "Darjah Datuk Paduka Mahkota Perak", which carries the title "Datuk" today, in conjunction with the 59th birthday of Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah.

State secretary Datuk Seri Abdul Puhat Mat Nayan, who announced the list of current and posthumous recipients, said Kevin, 55, was one of six recipients of posthumous titles from Perak.

His brother Datuk Richard Morais is expected to accept the award at Istana Iskandariah in Kuala Kangsar today.

Other posthumous awards will also recognise among others, Tan Sri Khoo Chong Kong, the Perak police chief who was assasinated in 1975 by communist gunmen at a traffic light junction between Fair Park and Anderson Road in Ipoh.

Khoo is honoured with Darjah Seri Panglima Taming Sari (SPTS).

Umno founder Datuk Seri Onn Jaafar is recognised with "Darjah Seri Paduka Cura Si Manja Kini" (SPCM) together with Datuk Panglima Bukit Gantang Abdul Wahab Toh Muda Abdul Aziz, once a Perak menteri besar.

Both men played key roles as leaders who opposed the formation of Malayan Union during British rule.

The late Dr Burhanuddin Al-Helmy and Aminuddin Baki are bestowed the Darjah Seri Paduka Mahkota Perak (SPMP).

They are among 702 recipients selected for honorary tittles and state medals out of 3858 applications.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is the sole recipient of a new award called "Darjah Seri Paduka Sultan Nazrin Shah" (SPSN).

The award comes with the title of "Datuk Seri Diraja" for the Bagan Datoh MP.

Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism Minister, Datuk Hamzah Zainuddin, who is from Tanjung Tualang, is the recipient of the "Darjah Seri Paduka Mahkota Perak" (SPMP) which carries the title "Datuk Seri".

Other notable recipients of the same award are Universiti Malaya (UM) board of directors chairman, Tan Sri Arsyad Ayub from Johor, and Securities Commission chairman, Datuk Ranjit Singh from Penang.

Meanwhile, Abdul Puhat said a string of programmes in conjunction with Sultan Nazrin's birthday were being held since October 23 and would last until April 30 next year.

They include the launching of Perak's newest district, Muallim, near Behrang, on January 11 next year.

The peak of the royal birthday celebrations, however, takes place today, at Istana Iskandariah in Kuala Kangsar.

The ceremonies include "Istiadat Mengadap Sembah Taat Setia" and "Istiadat Penyembahan Kembali Baur dan Istiadat Menjunjung Duli", followed by awarding of titles in the Balairong Seri palace hall.

The titles award ceremony will continue on Dec 12 and 19.
