KUALA LUMPUR (April 25): Tan Sri M. Kayveas today announced that he has resigned as the president of MyPPP, a post he has held for more than two decades.

In a post on his Facebook account, he said the resignation took effect last Monday.

The former MP for Taiping said he had also stepped down as the advisor to the MyPPP Perak Exco and as chairman of the Federal Territories MyPPP.

Kayveas’ resignation comes just two weeks before the nation goes to the polls on May 9 in the 14th general election.

Sources said he could have stepped down due to the party's failure to secure the Cameron Highlands parliamentary seat to contest in GE14. MIC Youth chief Datuk C. Sivaraajh has been named as the candidate for the seat.

"There could be some pressure from MyPPP members on why Kayveas did not secure the Cameron Highlands seat after the hard work put in by the party there over the last two years," the source, which declined to be named, told Bernama.

Last Sunday, Kayveas said the party did not endorse the decision of its vice-president Datuk Loga Balan Mohan to contest in the Segambut parliamentary seat under the BN banner.
