KUALA LUMPUR (April 24): Kamdar Group (M) Bhd announced today that its managing director Kamal Kumar Kishorchandra Kamdar, 45, has been appointed the group’s chairman, effective immediately.

His appointment came following an announcement from the group on the same day that Hamendra BM Kamdar, 64, has resigned from his post as the group’s chairman and executive director, due to poor health.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, the group said Kamal, who “has family relationship with major shareholders of Kamdar Group”, holds an LLB (Hons) degree and completed the Barrister at Law at Middle Temple, UK.

Kamal, who holds 53.47 million shares or a 27.01% stake in Kamdar, is also a director of all the group’s subsidiaries, as well as for several private limited companies, said Kamdar.

Meanwhile, in a separate filing, the group said Chia Lee Hoon, 52, has been appointed an executive director of Kamdar (fundamental:1.15; valuation:2). Chia is presently the group’s financial controller and has been working with Kamdar for the past 28 years.

Kamdar stores specialise in fabric, fabric furnishings and clothing.

Its counter fell 2 sen or 4.08% to 47 sen today, with a market capitalisation of RM93.06 million.
