KUALA LUMPUR (May 27): Malaysia had administered 2.605 million doses of vaccine under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) from 2.236 million in the past week (May 20), of which 937,756 individuals had completed their second doses of vaccine, according to the Covid-19 Vaccine Supply Access Guarantee Special Committee (JKJAV) in a Twitter post today.

Based on latest data from the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF), Selangor recorded the highest number of people who have received both doses of vaccine at 126,615, followed by Sarawak (92,390), Kuala Lumpur (90,552), and Johor (83,751).

Other states included Perak (79,241), Sabah (75,676), Penang (66,300), Pahang (64,155), Kedah (61,234), Kelantan (44,890), Negeri Sembilan (43,827), Terengganu (39,717), Melaka (32,432), Perlis (18,004), Putrajaya (9,352) and Labuan (9,620).

Meanwhile, a total of 1.667 million individuals had received their first dose of vaccine, with the highest number recorded in Kuala Lumpur (264,862), Selangor (222,802) and Sarawak (174,562).

Up to yesterday, 11.314 million individuals had registered for vaccination against Covid-19, with Selangor also recording the highest number at 3.003 million.

Malaysia is among the countries that started their vaccination programme late. The first jab given under PICK was on March 2, and in view of the worrying sharp rise in new infections, the government has expedited the administering of vaccine doses.

According to the PICK plan, the first phase from February until April involved 500,000 frontliners; the second phase, which is from April until August, involves 9.4 million senior citizens, those at risk and the disabled; and the third phase, which is scheduled for May until February 2022, will involve those aged 18 and above.

Malaysia's new daily Covid-19 cases reached an all-time high yesterday at 7,478 — the second consecutive day of staying above the 7,000 mark. This pushed the cumulative confirmed infections in the country to 533,368. Selangor registered the highest infections at 2,455, bringing the state's tally to 174,755 — the highest among all states and federal territories.
