KUALA LUMPUR (March 22): Jardine Cycle & Carriage Ltd (Jardine CCL) has raised its stake in takeover target company Cycle & Carriage Bintang Bhd (CCB) by 6.9 million shares or 6.85%.

According to CCB, the acquisition was done in the open market on Friday (March 19), when the counter traded between RM2.40 and RM2.41.

Following this, Jardine CCL’s shareholding has risen to 66.44 million shares or 65.95%, CCB’s filings showed.

On March 17, Jardine CCL made its fresh proposal to privatise CCB at RM2.40 per share, when the counter was trading at RM1.68. The group said the offer price was final.

The major shareholder had failed in its initial bid to take over the company, which was attempted via a proposed selective capital reduction and repayment exercise at RM2.20 per share.

Shares of CCB closed up one sen or 0.41% at RM2.42 today, valuing the Mercedes-Benz distributor at RM243.8 million.
