KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 25): Building materials trader Ipmuda Bhd has appointed corporate entertainment industry expert Datuk Sim Choo Thiam as its managing director effective today.

The 48-year-old is the founder and president of SCiTy Holdings Sdn Bhd, which is involved in real estate property development and construction in Malaysia and Australia, Ipmuda said in a Bursa Malaysia filing.

Sim owns 3.62 million shares or a 5% stake in Ipmuda which he acquired from major shareholder Maju Holdings Sdn Bhd in a direct business transaction today at a premium of 11.11% to Ipmuda's closing price of 80 sen.

Sim has experience in global entertainment, hospitality management, resorts and gaming industry while his company SCiTy has diversified into boutique holiday resort, and boutique classic car sales and marketing.

Meanwhile, Bloomberg data showed the direct deal was transacted at 2.50pm today, involving a single tranche at 90 sen each.

Maju Holdings is the private vehicle of Maju Group of Companies founder Tan Sri Abu Sahid Mohamed, who owns a 9.2% direct stake and 17.992% indirect interest in Ipmuda.

Over the past one year, Ipmuda shares have seen a return of 1.27%. At the current level, the group's market capitalisation is RM57.97 million.
