INFINITI Malaysia recently unveiled its flagship luxury sedan, the Q70, extending its current line-up after the launch of its premium sports sedan Q50 last year.

The marque’s management is obviously proud of the latest offering.

“To those who live, breathe extraordinary and dare to be different, reach for the exceptional with the new Infiniti Q70,” said Michael Cope, Infiniti Motor Ltd senior regional manager for Asia and Oceania.

What Cope refers to as “the exceptional” starts with the muscular, expressive design language that marks the premium sedan.

At the front, the new Q70 boosts interestingly sinister light-emitting diode (LED) headlights, the Infiniti signature chrome double-arch grille with waved mesh pattern, sport front bumper and integrated LED fog lights. The rear features LED combination lights and a new trunk lid shape with chrome rear finishers. A rear bumper design with new details around the large dual exhaust completes the impression of stability and strength.

The new Q70’s exterior combines balanced, rear-wheel drive proportions and stance with a long, low hood and high rear deck with a roomy cabin. Its sporty appearance is highlighted by standard 18in (45cm) wheels (or optional 20in wheels) and the deep body shape of the fenders and doors, which gives it a powerful look.

An interior that indulges

The focus of the interior design is on the individual driving the car, with an elegant yet functional design that combines artistry with precision and comfort with innovation.

Ten-way power driver and front passenger seats including two-way power lumbar support are standard, along with a dual occupant memory system for the driver’s seat, steering wheel and outside mirrors — which can be linked to the individual’s intelligent keys. The handcrafted white-ash silver-powdered wood makes luxury even more sensory and alluring.

Meanwhile, the BOSE® premium sound system, featuring the light yet powerful Neodymium speakers, envelops you in sound staging for a wider, more immersive experience.

Naturally dynamic feel

But there is more to the new sedan than just looks. The Infiniti Q70 offers three V6 engine variants — Q70 2.5L, 3.7L and the 3.5L Hybrid.

The Q70’s 2.5L V6 218-horsepower (hp) and 253-newton metre (Nm) high-revving engine is equipped with the Continuously Variable Valve Timing Control System, which optimises the opening of intake and exhaust valves to improve response and efficiency.

And the Q70’s 3.7L V6 is equipped with the Variable Valve Event and Lift System combining hydraulic-controlled variable valve timing and electronically controlled variable valve lift on the intake side to help improve performance and response.

The 24-valve DOHC aluminium-alloy V6 is rated at 320hp at 7,000rpm, 360Nm of torque at 5,200rpm. The unrivalled performance of the Q70 3.5L hybrid model features a one-motor, two-clutch parallel hybrid power train, generating a combined system output of 360hp and 350Nm.

It can go from 0 to 100kph in less than six seconds. The high-speed motor control technology enables a seamless transition between the gasoline engine and electric motor, providing a smooth and responsive ride with thrilling acceleration that goes beyond what was thought possible from a hybrid.

All Q70s come standard with Infiniti’s refined seven-speed automatic transmission with adaptive shift control and manual shift mode. The drive mode selector is an integrated control system that allows drivers to select from four driving modes, depending on mood or driving conditions, with a dial switch located on the centre console. Each mode — Standard, Eco, Sport or Snow — adjusts throttle sensitivity and transmission mapping to help optimise performance.

The estimated fuel economy (combined) is rated at 12.1 kilometres per litre (km/l) for the Q70 2.5L, 11.8km/l for the Q70 3.7L and 14.5km/l for the Q70 3.5L Hybrid.

Every Q70 includes Infiniti’s advanced vehicle dynamic control (VDC) with traction control system. VDC automatically adjusts brake pressure and engine torque when the vehicle is near its handling limit, helping the driver to maintain control of the vehicle.

Safety features

The sedan is equipped with six airbags — front airbags, front seat-mounted side-impact supplemental airbags, and standard roof-mounted curtain side-impact supplemental airbags for front- and rear-seat outboard occupant head protection.

Also included are pre-crash front seatbelts with pre-tensioners and load limiters which tighten the seat belts in certain braking situations, while the active front head restraints help to cushion the head in reducing whiplash-type injuries. Zone body construction offers total body protection with laser welding at critical locations, front and rear crumple zones and the child safety Isofix system.

The new Q70 comes in five colours: Hermosa Blue, Malbec Black, Liquid Platinum, Graphite Shadow and Moonlight White with premium pearl finish.

It is available for viewing and test drives at the Infiniti Center in Kuala Lumpur. For more information, call (03) 2162 3223.
