JOHOR BAHRU (June 17): IKEA Southeast Asia’s latest shopping centre, Toppen Shopping Centre in Tebrau is set to open its doors to the public in November this year.

Shopping Centre & Mixed Use director of IKEA Southeast Asia Christian Olofsson said the take-up rate for the mall's 1.1 million square feet of net lettable space had reached over 85% to date.

He said Toppen with its rooftop community hub, The Topp, was also set to attract customers with a myriad of fresh retail, dining, e-sports and entertainment experiences — a complete “retailtainment” offer for the people here.

“It will become a new shopping attraction in the southern region of Peninsular Malaysia because there are many exciting things, especially the unique rooftop concept that is the first-of-its-kind in Malaysia that will surely allow people to experience new shopping experience," he said at the key handover ceremony at Toppen Shopping Centre at Ikea Tebrau, here today.

Meanwhile, head of leasing Southeast Asia of Ikano Centres, Part of IKEA Southeast Asia Arnoud Bakker said the mall would also feature many firsts in Johor such as the Malaysia premiere grocery and food destination Ben’s Independent Grocer (B.I.G); The Pantheon, which will be debuting its second eSports arena in Malaysia; 9 to 9, a first in Malaysia flagship online to online (O2O) by Hush Puppies and Concept Haus, a premium streetwear and athleisure retailer.

“We will bring in more than 80 per cent of new brands here and we have over 25 per cent of local brands already signed up. It is extremely important to us that customers in Johor have something new but at the same time enjoy local brands,” he added.

The mall is expected to attract 15 million visitors in 2020, not only from Johor Bahru but also from the southern region of Malaysia and Singapore, apart from bringing in thousands of business and job opportunities. — Bernama
