KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 12): Diversified group IJM Corp Bhd has secured a RM258 million contract for construction works of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project located in Temerloh, Pahang.

In a statement today, IJM said the contract was awarded to its wholly-owned subsidiary IJM Construction Sdn Bhd by China Communications Construction (ECRL) Sdn Bhd for the construction of substructure works and partial superstructure works for the Sungai Pahang bridge, as well as T-Beam fabrication and installation of this bridge as well as other bridges in Section 6 of the rail link.

"We are delighted to be part of this strategically important megaproject and to be working with China Communications Construction (ECRL) Sdn Bhd. We continue to build on our 38 years of experience and expertise in delivering civil works for major and nationally significant infrastructure projects," said IJM chief executive officer and managing director Liew Hau Seng.

Construction work on the project is scheduled to start by the end of this month, and due to be completed in 24 months.

As at March 31, 2021, the outstanding order book of IJM's construction division stood at RM4 billion.

IJM noted that major projects secured by the division in the current financial year include the RM89.8 million contract for the construction of infrastructure building and public realms works at Tun Razak Exchange (TRX), Kuala Lumpur and another RM237.8 million contract for the construction of Mezzo residential tower in The Light City, Gelugor, Penang.

At 4.17pm, shares of IJM were trading down two sen or 1.09% to RM1.82, giving the group a market capitalisation of RM6.63 billion.
