KUALA LUMPUR (June 11): i-City Golden Triangle (i-City GT) by I-Bhd in Shah Alam is geared up and future-ready for the deployment of 5G technology.

The Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC)-certified integrated ultrapolis is currently served by a 400G-capable network connectivity powered by Huawei, boosting its credentials as a smart city and next-level information and communications technology (ICT)-based urban development, said the developer in a press release.

“By ensuring the technology infrastructure in i-City GT is future-proof, connectivity benefits in i-City GT will be further realised with the impending deployment of 5G technology, enabling us to gain a significant edge in the rolling out of future technologies and the explosion of our serviced-based economy. Demand for bandwidth will undoubtedly be greater over time given the increased adoption of technology in our everyday living,” said I-Bhd.

I-Bhd has plans to expand its data centre park in the pipeline. Envisioning a dedicated "Data Centre Zone", the developer has obtained approval to build two more data centres with space of 100,000 sq ft each on a six-acre (about 2.43-hectare) plot of freehold land, targeting multinational corporations (MNCs), financial companies and information technology firms.

The first data centre in i-City was launched in 2008, and is now one of the largest data centre space providers in a single location in Malaysia. Currently, the data centre park comprises a 70,000 sq ft world-class tier 3 purpose-built ready data centre catering to global ICT companies.

“Southeast Asia is projected to be the fastest-growing region for data centres and significant data usage growth is projected for the next five years. Malaysia in particular has become an increasingly popular location for the proliferation of data centres and cloud services, rivalling the likes of China, Indonesia and India.

“Fully cognisant of this potential, I-Bhd looks forward to collaborating with global leading cloud service providers for the building and management of hyper-scale data centres as well as the provision of cloud services,” said the developer.

I-Bhd has invested over RM50 million in the data centre park, which is currently operated by Strateq and HDC Data Centre.
