KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 4): Education minister Maszlee Malik today denied that he said the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) case will be included in the history education syllabus.

In a statement today, Maszlee said that he was misquoted by the media when answering a question by Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan [BN-Pontian] in the Dewan Rakyat.

"It must be stressed that YB Dr Maszlee did not in any way mention that the 1MDB case will be included in Malaysia's history education syllabus.

"When answering additional questions by YB Pontian, YB Dr Maszlee only mentioned that the 1MDB issue will be included in Malaysia's history," said the statement.

Calling media reports as 'inaccurate', the statement said that any decision to change education syllabus will go through the Ministry of Education's curricular research committee.

"In enriching intellectial discourse, the committee has no qualms if the 1MDB issue is made a case study in higher institutions, considering 1MDB is an issue that has garnered attention of many in and out of the country, from the perspective of good governance and accountability, as well as the culture of integrity," the statement added.
