Najib_FD_7july15_theedgemarketBESUT: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said he would strive to seek the truthful path to rebut all allegations against his leadership.

Najib said he was thankful to the support given by Umno leaders and PAS spiritual leader Datuk Dr Haron Din who dismissed allegations on several issues relating to 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) as absurd.

“I did not betray the people. I will find ways to uphold the truth. Be calm, the truth will prevail,” he said when opening Sekolah Menengah Imtiaz Yayasan Terengganu Besut and launching the al-Syahadah al-Ulya Ulul Albab programme yesterday.

He urged the people to be calm and be united in refuting all allegations against the government and the country’s leaders despite their different political affliations.

According to him, to build a progressive civilisation, the people of a country should not be divided.

Meanwhile, he said developed nations would not belittle the country if the people had the strength in their faith and piety to lay the foundation for an even greater civilisation.

He said producing a thinking generation in the country not only requires a generation of physical strength but also mental capability.

“We should not only be individually strong, but there must be strength from the faith to produce a great civilisation on par with countries more developed than us today,” he said.

Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman said Terengganu Barisan Nasional would brave the storm with the prime minister, and is also willing to be at the front line to defend the country’s current political challenges.

“This is our place, our country, so it is not easy for outsiders to destroy our country, but there could be bigger tests in future ... defamation, abuses, hurting words ... this is a sign Allah is testing our patience, so accept it calmly,” he said.

Meanwhile, The Malaysian Insider reported that Datuk Dr Puad Zarkashi said the Wall Street Journal’s (WSJ) report that alleged Najib received billions of ringgit in his personal bank accounts from SRC International Sdn Bhd is an international conspiracy.

The Special Affairs Department (Jasa) director-general said the report appeared to be part of an international conspiracy aimed at toppling the Malaysian government, adding that he hopes Najib will sue the business daily as soon as possible.

“I hope the suit will be filed immediately against the slanderous report. The prime minister has denied the allegation.

“What is important now is that the source of attack against the country has changed from inside the country to outside the country, as though there is some international conspiracy to remove the present government,” he said in Penang yesterday.

Jasa functions as Putrajaya’s propaganda unit, with one of its tasks being the dissemination of information on behalf of the government.

Puad, an Umno supreme council member, said this attack from abroad was a development following the arrest of former PetroSaudi International director Xavier Ander Justo in Thailand for alleged blackmail and extortion over information on PetroSaudi’s dealings with 1MDB.

Puad said Justo’s arrest had shown that tampered documents about 1MDB’s dealings had been leaked and used in the media to paint a bad picture of Malaysia.

“Previously, people inside the country were used to attack the government. Now, they have diverted to using the foreign media to make personal attacks against the PM.

“We cannot compromise on this matter, as the attacks have effects on the country’s stability and the PM’s leadership.

“I ask all Umno members to unite and defend the PM. With undivided support and trust from party members and the people, Najib will be able to overcome this difficult challenge.”

When asked whether members of the Umno supreme council were satisfied with Najib’s explanations on the WSJ allegation, he said there had not been any council meeting on the matter. — Bernama/The Malaysian Insider
