KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 23): Pengerang MP Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said she was offering herself to contest the Wanita Umno chief post as she wanted to rejuvenate the movement.

"This is in line with Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak's drive to transform and revitalise Umno.

"If elected, I plan to bring some changes and approaches to the Wanita wing as I don't want to see a tsunami of young people against Umno in the 14th general election.

"The party's polls this time around is a healthy competition to ensure that Umno remains relevant to the Malays," she told reporters after being interviewed on BernamaTV's Hello Malaysia programme last night.

On former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's remarks that the spirit of struggle among Umno members was waning, Azalina, who was former Puteri chief, said it was a reminder to the party not to be complacent.

"The remarks show that we need to rejuvenate the party. Never equate ourselves with the opposition who are just full of empty talk. We also need to have new leaders to guide the younger generation to embrace Umno's struggle," she added.
