KUALA LUMPUR (June 3): Ho Hup Construction Company Bhd, which was awarded RM102.5 million worth of jobs for the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project recently, aims to allocate a substantial portion of the contract value to local vendors.

Its chief executive officer Datuk Derek Wong Kit Leong said the group’s construction team is now finalising with local vendors and suppliers for the necessary engineering equipment, materials and other supplies for the jobs.

In a statement, Wong said the firm was delighted to secure the sizeable contract during the current highly-challenging Covid-19 pandemic period, when businesses across the economy had been badly affected.

“One of main responsibility as a key sub-contractor to China Communications Construction (ECRL) Sdn Bhd is to generate sizeable local content when we execute this important and strategic infrastructure project.

“Our priority is to ensure the smooth execution of the works contracted,” he said.

The jobs, which are for 30 months starting June 15, involve the construction and completion of subgrade, drainage and culvert works on Section 6 of the ECRL.

At 2.45pm, Ho Hup shares gained 0.88% or 0.5 sen to 57.5 sen, valuing it at RM237.12 million.
