KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 10): Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) chairman, P. Waytha Moorthy, today resigned as a deputy minister in the Prime Minister's Department, said Hindraf in a statement.

The statement, issued by Hindraf secretary P. Ramesh and posted on Waytha Moorthy's Facebook page, said that Waytha Moorthy handed his resignation letter to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, at 5.05 pm.

"P. Waytha Moorthy had handed over his resignation letter to the Prime Minister, to release him of his position as the Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department," Ramesh said.

He said that Waytha Moorthy had explained his reasons for relinquishing his duties from the current administration, in the letter.
Hindraf on Saturday, said that Waytha Moorthy would be resigning from all his government posts, and the senate, on Monday.

Hindraf had signed a memorandum of understanding with the government on April 18 last year, in a bid to resolve socio-economic problems afflicting the Indian community in Malaysia.

Waytha Moorthy was appointed as a senator and then, a deputy minister, after the 13th general election on May 5 last year.
