IF the name Donna Karan New York isn’t the embodiment of New York fashion, then what is? Since 1984, DKNY has been delighting men, women and children around the world with fashions that create wardrobes for day to evening wear, from weekday to weekend.
Last Thursday, in conjunction with the F1 Petronas Malaysia Grand Prix, DKNY showcased New York Nation for the first time ever in Malaysia at Pavilion Pitstop, an annual haven for fashion lovers.
In its brand new spring 2015 collection, New York’s trendiest fashions for the season hit our streets in what DKNY is calling New York Nation — paying homage to arguably one of the world’s greatest cities where thousands of artists, writers, musicians and fashion designers have drawn inspiration from, made their homes and stomping grounds.
Bringing to life classic designs and prints from decades past by giving them a modern twist, New York Nation is a celebration of vibrant colours, patterns, laser prints, stripes and graphics. Dresses sport funky and eclectic geometric shapes in a dizzying array of eye-popping colours and light pastels.
Wearing double skirts is also a trend with DKNY this season, often paired with colourful bold handbags that come in a variety of sizes and styles. Oversized tops and jackets are also the rage, as are chokers and chunky accessories.
Perhaps drawing inspiration from New York’s darker, underground side, selections of the collection feature street-inspired art and fabrics as well as shoes. Alongside the chic dresses and skirts, the “grungier” pieces are a contrast but still mesh in with the collection thanks to a coherent colour palette that helps glue everything together.
DKNY is also embracing the sporty look this season — with sneakers, platform runners, athletic materials and hoodies to complete the New York Nation collection. In true New York style, DKNY is picking out the best of the city’s melting pot of multicultural, multifaceted yet perfectly charismatic facets and blending them together into a collection that embraces them all.
