KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court has fixed the trial dates for Datuk Seri Najib Razak and former Treasury secretary-general Tan Sri Dr Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah’s International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC) case.

According to Mohd Irwan’s lawyer Lavinia Kumaraendran, Justice Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali has set Nov 23-26, Nov 30 to Dec 3 and Dec 7-10 as the trial dates for this year.

Following that, the trial will continue on Jan 10, 2021, every day from Mondays to Thursdays up until the end of February 2021.

The judge had previously vacated the IPIC trial dates, which was initially slated for January to February this year, to make way for the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) case.

Najib and Mohd Irwan are facing criminal breach of trust charges involving RM6.64 billion in government funds in the IPIC case.

Najib and Mohd Irwan claimed trial on Oct 25 last year to six counts of misappropriating some RM6.64 billion in government funds. The offences were allegedly committed between Dec 21, 2016 and Dec 18, 2017.

Part of the funds had been purportedly allocated for certain purposes initially, including the management expenditure of Kuala Lumpur International Airport, subsidy and cash assistance under Budget 2017.

However, monies allocated for those purposes were channelled into 1MDB instead, to pay its debts including US$1.2 billion to IPIC in April 2017.
