KUALA LUMPUR (April 5): Datuk Haris Fadzilah Hassan will be stepping down as FGV Holdings Bhd’s group chief executive officer (CEO) effective May 15, 2021.

According to a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, the 53-year-old will be resigning from his position “to pursue other interests”.

“The board will look for a suitable candidate to take over the position of the Group CEO and an announcement will be made once the candidate has been identified,” said FGV.

Last week, FGV had announced the appointment of Datuk Dzulkifli Abd Wahab, the former director-general of the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda), as its new chairman effective April 1.

Dzulkifli, 65, will be replacing Datuk Wira Azhar Abdul Hamid, who has resigned to pursue other interests, after helming the position in FGV for three and a half years.

Haris, who has been at the helm of the company since Jan 23, 2019, has an indirect interest of 25,000 shares in FGV. He is also a non-independent and non-executive director at MSM Malaysia Holdings Bhd, which in turn is FGV’s 51%-owned publicly traded sugar processing unit.

FGV said Haris has more than 30 years of experience in strategy and business development, project management and operations in several industries such as oil and gas, automobile and plantations.

Prior to joining FGV, he was at Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd as director of stakeholder relations and land management. He held the role of acting CEO from December 2013 to February 2014 and was redesignated director of commercial and land management in January 2016, a role he served up till early January 2019.

FGV’s shares closed unchanged at RM1.37 today, valuing it at RM5 billion. Over the past year, the counter has gained some 54% from 89 sen.
