KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 13): Tan Sri Halim Saad is taking legal action against Singapore-listed Hoe Leong Corp Ltd and five other defendants for alleged fraudulent misrepresentation, which resulted in him suffering loss and damage.

Oil and gas support services provider Hoe Leong chairman and chief executive officer Kuah Geok Lin said yesterday in a filing with the Singapore bourse that Halim, via his solicitors and the Kuala Lumpur High Court, had issued a writ and statement of claim to the defendants.

Kuah said yesterday the writ and statement of claim was served on the defendants on Monday (Sept 9).

"The plaintiff's claim in the said civil suit is, in essence, for alleged deceit and/or fraudulent misrepresentation by the company and an alleged conspiracy by the defendants which caused the plaintiff to suffer loss and damage. The plaintiff has accordingly sought an order for general damages against the defendants in the civil suit.

"The company has engaged solicitors in Malaysia to represent it in the said civil suit, and has been advised to file an application to strike out the said civil suit for, among other reasons, abuse of court process. The company will make further announcement as appropriate in due course and on any other material developments as and when necessary," he said.
