KUALA LUMPUR (March 28): Integrated cold-chain logistics services provider Haisan Resources Bhd's managing director Ong Chin Yet has stepped down from his post today.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, the company said Ong, 54, has withdrawn from his current post, citing the need to focus on developing the overseas cold chain market and to prepare for succession planning as his reason.

Haisan said Ong shall remain with the group as its adviser on business development following his resignation.

"In the interim, Kamarudin Md Derom is appointed as the acting chief executive officer," said the company.

Kamarudin, 58, started his career as a civil engineer in Promet Construction Sdn Bhd. In 1986, he joined Energoprojekt Engineering and Constructing Co, a company involved in the Expressway Project between Ayer Keroh and Pagoh.

He left Energoprojekt in 1989 and joined Senju (M) Sdn Bhd, a multinational company from Japan involving in the manufacturing of industrial solders for electronics as a Sales Manager.

He was later engaged as a project manager with Pembinaan TLN Sdn Bhd from 1991 to 1994.

In 1995, Kamarudin co-founded a bonded warehousing company with Haisan Group to provide bonded warehousing services. He is now actively overseeing the group's business development and other divisions.

In a separate filing, Haisan announced the appointment of Prabir Kumar Mittra as its executive director.

Prior to this, Mittra, 60, was an executive director and chief financial officer of Metroplex Bhd from 2008 to 2009.

Shares in Haisan have been suspended pending a financial regularisation plan.
