KUALA LUMPUR: The government is considering the setting up of a special court to handle cases arising from complaints relating to the Goods and Services Tax (GST) to expedite hearing of the cases.

Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism Datuk Paduka Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah said there was suggestion to set up a special court to handle cases or complaints against companies which raised the prices of goods upon implementation of the GST.

"We are planning to set up a special court so that no businessman will take advantage of the GST to increase the price of goods," he told the Dewan Rakyat when replying to a supplementary question asked by Selayang MP William Leong.

Ahmad Bashah said the government is also expecting a trend of price hikes after the GST starts in April 2015.

"This is why an additional 400 enforcement officer has been added to the existing 2,000 officers in the ministry to monitor the implementation of the GST," he added.
