KUALA LUMPUR (May 14): The government will implement the MyPortfolio work guidelines to beef up performance of the civil service, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said in a statement today.

The new guidelines are aimed at strengthening management of the public sector, as well as preventing corruption and abuse of power.

In addition, the guidelines will also prevent the public from complaining about delays in civil servants performing their duties or questioning their integrity in discharging their duties.

The development of MyPortfolio will be undertaken by the Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (Mampu).

The statement was issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, after he chaired the Special Cabinet Committee on Anti-Corruption (JKKMAR) today.

Other issues that were discussed during the meeting include the cleaning up of the electoral roll by the Elections Committee (EC) and the setting up of the local authorities' services commission.

The EC is in the midst of updating the roll by cross-referencing voter information with sources such as Bank Negara, banking institutions, the Energy Commission, the National Water Services Commission, telecommunications companies and utilities companies.

Meanwhile, a draft of legislation to set up the local authorities services commission is expected to be presented to the Attorney General’s Chamber at year-end.
