SEPANG (Jan 7): The government had no role in Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) chief executive officer (CEO) Raja Azmi Raja Nazuddin's resignation yesterday.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said he wished Raja Azmi well.

"I wish him good luck," Loke told a press conference to announce AirAsia Group Bhd's fixed-fare flights for the upcoming Chinese New Year period here today.

When asked if the government had pressured Raja Azmi to resign, Loke said there was no government pressure.

The appointment of Raja Azmi as group CEO of MAHB was previously announced by Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng. The appointment came after obtaining the approval from Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

In a bourse filing yesterday, MAHB announced that Raja Azmi had resigned from his position, citing pursuing other opportunities. His resignation came two years short of his three-year contract. Replacing him is MAHB chief operating officer (COO) Datuk Mohd Shukrie Mohd Salleh, who has taken up the role as acting CEO.

Shukrie was COO of AirAsia until he moved to MAHB in May last year.

At 11.58am, MAHB shares fell 3.18% or 24 sen to RM7.32, valuing it at RM12.15 billion.
