PUTRAJAYA (Jan 17): The government has disbursed RM18.8 million as part of the e-Tunai Rakyat initiative, said Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng.

At the signing ceremony of a supplementary agreement for the Mass Rapid Transit 2 (MRT2), Lim said as of 10pm last night the government has disbursed the amount to successful applicants.

"As of 10pm, 748,000 have applied, 672,000 have been approved," said Lim.

He explained that this initiative was in line with the government's move to ensure that Malaysia adopts more cashless payments.

On concerns about data privacy and invasion, Lim said applicants' data was safeguarded and no third parties had access to it.
