KUALA LUMPUR (June 15): The government is confident of administering more than 300,000 doses of daily vaccination jab per day in the coming months, said Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
"At the start of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Plan, the vaccination rate was only 5,000 to 8,000 per day but this increased to 50,000 to 80,000 in May.
"Yesterday, 197,963 daily jabs were administered, and I am confident that this effort will continue with more than 300,000 daily jabs given in the coming months," said Muhyiddin during the national broadcast address of the National Recovery Plan today.
Muhyiddin said a total of 13.8 million individuals have registered for the vaccination so far, adding that the government's target is to ensure that at least 26 million Malaysians are vaccinated by the end of this year to achieve herd immunity.
"We have not only vaccinated almost all frontliners, but over 50% of those aged 60 and above have received their first dose. We will continue to prioritise other groups such as those with comorbidities, and adults aged 18 and above. Recently, the government is studying vaccination for children aged 12 until 17 years," he said.
According to him, as more people receive their vaccination shots, more economic sectors will be allowed to operate and soon the country can return to its pre-pandemic environment.
Based on the latest data from the Covid-19 Vaccine Supply Access Guarantee Special Committee (JKJAV), Malaysia achieved its highest daily vaccination rate of 197,963 doses yesterday (June 14) — the seventh consecutive day that daily doses stay above the 100,000 mark.
A total of 142,890 individuals received their first dose, while the remaining 55,073 were those who got their second shot.
Cumulatively, 4.69 million Covid-19 vaccine doses have been administered. Of these, 1.41 million individuals have been fully vaccinated, while 1.86 million individuals have got their first jab.
Kuala Lumpur reported the highest number of individuals who have received their first dose at 573,392, followed by Selangor (487,138), Sarawak (355,676), Johor (309,350) and Sabah (254,339).
Meanwhile, Selangor was the state with the most individuals who have completed their second dose, at 180,605, followed by Sarawak (159,920), Perak (135,435), Johor (135,621) and Kuala Lumpur (127,174).
Today, daily Covid-19 cases came in at 5,419, bringing the nationwide cumulative infections to 667,876.
