KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 2): A total of RM314.6 billion is budgeted for the federal government's expenditure in 2019. In terms of gross domestic product (GDP), the budgeted amount is 0.3% higher than 2018's revised estimates.

Of this, a total of RM259.9 billion or 82.6% will be allocated for operating expenditure or OE, while the balance RM54.7 billion will be spent for development expenditure (DE). This means the amount allocated for OE will have increased 10.4% year-on-year, while DE will see a contraction of 0.4% from 2018, according to the Ministry of Finance's Economic Report 2018/19, titled Fiscal Outlook 2019.

Sector-wise, after excluding charged and transfer expenditure (36.1%), 34% will be allocated for the social sector, followed by economic (14.2%), general administration (6%), and security (9.7%) sectors.
