KUALA LUMPUR (May 16): DAP's Tony Pua today challenged 1Malaysia Development Berhad's (1MDB) board of directors to sue both him and CIMB group chairman Datuk Seri Nazir Razak, after the company threatened to sue its detractors.

The Petaling Jaya Utara MP (pic, right) in a statement today said he welcomed the 1MDB board to "throw their hat into the ring" since Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak himself had initiated legal action against him for constant criticism of 1MDB's dealings.

“Go ahead and take legal action against Datuk Seri Nazir Razak and myself,” Pua said.

“Since we could not get the board to talk in public, the least we could do is to get them to answer from the witness box and let Malaysians be the judge of their culpability.”

Najib is chairman of 1MDB's advisory board. The government-owned investment arm currently sits on a debt of RM42 billion.

Nazir waded in with his own criticism and called for the 1MDB board to resign if it couldn’t commission its own independent audit.
