KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 31): Cashless payment solution provider GHL Systems Bhd said it has enabled WeChat Pay's e-wallet acceptance at selected merchants across its network of payment touch points in Malaysia and Cambodia.

Concurrently, GHL will enable the acceptance of a domestic ringgit-based WeChat Pay MY acceptance at selected merchants in Malaysia, which is enabled for Malaysian users and a Renminbi WeChat Pay payment option for internet transactions in Cambodia.

The move enables WeChat Pay to provide a seamless user experience for its users when conducting cross-border transactions in these countries be it as tourists, students or business travellers.

Being one of the leading social communication platforms, WeChat and Weixin have a combined 1,133 million monthly active user accounts as of the second quarter of 2019.

"This addition further strengthens our position as the leading e-payment solutions provider in ASEAN and preferred partner by merchants and payment players for cross-border merchant acquisitions. We look forward to adding more merchant points across our other ASEAN countries soon," said GHL chief executive officer Danny Leong,.

Additionally, GHL said it has been deploying smart all-in-one payment terminals which will accept not only debit/credit cards but also emerging payments such as QR codes on e-wallets across the ASEAN region, specifically in Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia and Cambodia.

The trend of domestic e-wallets as potential forms of cross-border payment acceptance will gain momentum and GHL will benefit from this via its 374,900 payment touch points across ASEAN.
