KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 14): Genting Bhd has launched an internal investigation on gambling cheats at its Genting Casino in Glasgow, Scotland.

It was reported by The Scottish Sun that casino chiefs have launched a probe after losing £200,000 (about RM1.12 million) to a gang of individuals, who are believed to have swindled the massive sum by fiddling a card game called Punto Banco.

Punto Banco, a variant of the card game Baccarat, requires gamblers to choose to be either on the punter (punto) or the banker (banco), with the cards dealt out from a transparent 'shoe', which holds several decks.

The scammers allegedly distracted the dealer and tampered with the shoe to see the cards and scam the casino out of the cash, an act believed to have been repeated several times over a course of four months at the casino.

The internal probe is being executed by the casino. However, for now, the police is not involved.

“We are currently carrying out an internal investigation in to a potential incident of card cheating. If criminal activity is proven, prosecutions will be sought under section 42 of the gambling act,” a Genting spokesperson told The Scottish Sun.

At noon break, Genting settled 10% or 1 sen higher at RM9.67, valuing it at RM36.61 billion.
