KUALA LUMPUR (July 26): Both Deputy Defence Minister Liew Chin Tong and Jaringan Melayu Malaysia (JMM) president Datuk Azwanddin Hamzah are still working on the terms of settlement to the deputy minister's defamation suit.

As such, High Court judge Justice Azimah Omar has fixed a final case management date on Aug 8 for both parties in anticipation of a settlement.

This was disclosed by Liew's lawyer Rayveni Asogan, and Sarah Abishegam, who appeared for Azwanddin.

Should both parties fail to reach a settlement, trial dates of Sept 23 to 25 had been fixed by the judge earlier.

Liew is seeking RM20 million from Azwanddin for his Facebook post alleging the deputy minister intentionally wore a "Communist uniform" to a military event.

The suit was filed by Messrs Karpal Singh & Co when Azwanddin allegedly uploaded a picture and captioned it with the remark on Oct 30, 2018.

Besides this, Azwanddin had written an article that was posted on JMM's website last Nov 19 with the title "Kementerian Pertahanan Kini Berada Dalam Tekanan dan Ancaman" (The Defence Ministry is under pressure and threat).

The deputy minister is also seeking an injunction preventing Azwanddin from repeating those words besides damages.
