KUALA LUMPUR: Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) has appointed Fraziali Ismail (pic) as an assistant governor to fill the vacancy left by Donald Joshua Jaganathan, who will retire on Monday.

The central bank said in a statement that Fraziali will oversee financial surveillance, prudential regulations, consumer and market conduct, money services business regulations as well as communications.

Fraziali joined BNM in 1994, serving in the economics and monetary policy departments.

He holds a Master’s Degree in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and Accounting from the University of Bristol.

Jaganathan has served the central bank for 36 years.

He was appointed assistant governor in 2011. Prior to that, he had served in a number of areas, including banking and insurance regulation and supervision, financial surveillance, strategic management and finance.

Jaganathan also played an instrumental role in driving various talent development initiatives in the financial industry, including the Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers and Asian Banking School.
