The RM180 million Four Points by Sheraton Kuala Lumpur, Chinatown was officially launched on Dec 2 and received its first guests on Dec 3. The 20-storey hotel with 318 rooms is targeting an occupancy rate of more than 75% in the next three to four months, according to Datuk Choy Wai Hin,

executive director of Masteron Group of Companies, which owns the hotel. There was no soft opening prior to the launch and Choy explains why in an interview with City&Country.

“[On Dec 3] we had our first guests check in. Our two function rooms are fully booked. There is a reason for this. I am also the managing director of Federal International Holdings Bhd, and one of our core businesses is the interior fit-out of 4 and 5-star hotels. In my other capacity, I am the executive director of the Masteron Group of Companies. We are an integrated property developer with our own construction team.

“I spent all my life building 4 and 5-star hotel interiors for other people and with this hotel, I told myself that whatever I have learnt over my 35-year career, I will put my energy, attention and focus to make [it] a success.”

The land the hotel sits on measures three quarters of an acre and was used as a car park before the hotel was built. Room rates start at RM300 per night.

In a press release, Choy says, “We are excited to be part of this venture with Marriott International and have taken great care in the execution of our first collaboration project. Efforts, in all details, have been consciously made to capture the essence of Chinatown — its trade and livelihood of days gone by.”

This concept is seen throughout the hotel. The room interiors feature clean lines and include wallpaper artwork of nostalgic images of Chinatown by Malaysian artist Loka Made.

The rooms look out on different parts of Kuala Lumpur, and the hotel is within walking distance to Petaling Street and the Pasar Seni MRT station.

Four Points by Sheraton is part of Marriott International Inc, which has more than 250 hotels in 40 countries and territories.
