KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 18): A total of 84 individuals, who had received at least one dose of vaccine, have died of Covid-19 in Malaysia.

Among the deaths, four were fully inoculated individuals while 80 individuals had received their first dose of vaccine, according to Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Among the four fully vaccinated individuals were two Indonesian men aged 45 and 49 years with underlying hypertension and hyperlipidaemia, 76-year-old Malaysian woman with underlying diabetes and stroke, and an 84-year-old Pakistani man.

"Our recent clinical audit data analysis on the breakthrough deaths showed that among the overall 12,993 deaths recorded, 80 cases had been partially vaccinated (0.6%) and four cases had full vaccination (0.03%)," he tweeted.

Separately, Malaysia's daily Covid-19 cases hit a new high of 22,242 today, after declining below 20,000 mark for two straight days.

The previous record high of daily cases was 21,668, posted on Aug 12.

Selangor still topped the list with most Covid-19 infections at 6,858, followed by Sabah (2,413), Penang (1,867), Kedah (1,852) and Kuala Lumpur (1,587).

Cumulatively, Malaysia has detected 1.466 million Covid-19 infections since the pandemic began in late January last year.
