KUALA LUMPUR (April 12): Foreign investors were net sellers of Malaysian equities for the fourth consecutive week last week but at a slower pace of RM77.9 million compared with RM173.24 million in the prior week.

In its weekly fund flow report today, MIDF Research said as the market reopened last Monday, foreign investors sold RM41.54 million net of local equities, with retailers and local institutions both as net buyers and net sellers to the tune of RM60.65 million and RM18.91 million respectively.

“Foreign investors were net sellers every day except on Wednesday. The largest foreign outflow was recorded on Tuesday at RM94.58 million and the smallest outflow was on Monday at RM41.54 million. The only inflow recorded on Wednesday was to the tune of RM151.59 million,” it said.

As for retailers, MIDF said, they were net buyers every day except on Wednesday.

“The largest net buying by retailers was recorded on Monday at RM60.45 milllion and the smallest net buying was on Thursday at RM7.87 million. Cumulatively, for the week, retailers net bought RM88.84 million worth of equities on Bursa [Malaysia],” it said.

Meanwhile, MIDF said local institutions' cumulative weekly outflow was to the tune of RM10.92 million.

“The biggest net buying was on Tuesday at RM50.69 million, while the smallest net buying was on Thursday at RM35. 64 milllion. The biggest net selling happened on Wednesday at RM114.54 million,” it said.

MIDF also noted that since the beginning of 2021, cumulatively, retailers had been the only net buyers in the Malaysian equity market to the tune of RM5.41 billion.

Local institutions and foreign investors were net sellers to the tune of RM3.64 billion and RM1.77 billion respectively, it said.

In terms of participation, it said, retail investors, local institutions and foreign investors recorded weekly decreases of 7%, 9.77% and 7.21% respectively in average daily trading value (ADTV).

For the week ended April 9, the top three stocks with the highest net money inflows were Public Bank Bhd, Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd (KLK) and Top Glove Corp Bhd.

Meanwhile, the top three stocks with the highest net money outflows for the week were Serba Dinamik Holdings Bhd, Axiata Group Bhd and Petronas Gas Bhd (PetGas).
