KUALA LUMPUR (April 5): Foreign investors were net sellers for the third consecutive week after selling off equities listed on Bursa Malaysia amounting to RM173.24 million on a net basis, compared to RM239.8 million the week before, according to MIDF Research.

In its weekly fund flow report today, the MIDF Research team said foreign investors bought RM89.8million net of local equities as the market reopened last Monday, with retailers and local institutions both as net buyers and net sellers to the tune of RM30.3 million and RM120.1 million respectively.

“Foreign investors were net buyers every day except on Wednesday. However, the inflow was still insufficient to reverse the outflow at mid-week.

"The largest foreign inflow was recorded on Monday and the smallest inflow was on Thursday at RM7.03 million. The only outflow recorded was on Wednesday to the tune of RM337.59 million,” said MIDF.

Year to date (YTD), retailers have cumulatively been the only net buyers of Malaysia’s equity market to the tune of RM5.32 billion, noted MIDF. Meanwhile, local institutions and foreign investors were net sellers to the tune of RM3.63 billion and RM1.69 billion respectively.

Retailers were net buyers during the first half of the week and net sellers on the latter. The largest net buying by retailers was recorded on Wednesday at RM224.59 million, while the largest net selling was on Friday at RM33.01 million. Cumulatively for the week, retailers net bought RM331.98 million worth of equities on Bursa.

Meanwhile, local institutions’ cumulative weekly outflow was to the tune of RM158.76 million.

The biggest net buying was on Wednesday at RM113 million, while the smallest net buying was on Thursday at RM1.78 million.The biggest net selling happened on Tuesday at RM147.6 million.

In terms of participation, retail investors, local institutions and foreign investors recorded a weekly decrease of 4.49%, 0.32% and 18.78% respectively in average daily trading value (ADTV).
